About
- Welcome to GISSV
  The German International School of Silicon Valley is an independent, nonprofit preschool–grade 12 school with two locations in the San Francisco Bay Area.
- Learning in German and English
  Our high-quality dual-immersion education helps students reach their full potential in a stimulating environment that fosters critical and imaginative thinking, a passion for lifelong learning and an appreciation for cultural diversity.
Admissions
- Meeting Students’ Needs From Preschool Through High School
  GISSV welcomes students of all cultural and ethnic backgrounds. We serve students from two to eighteen years old.
- Enrollment
  The enrollment period begins during the months of January and February of each year for the upcoming school year. We also accept new students throughout the school year based on availability. Knowledge of the German language is required for all children who enroll after 1st grade (See also our German Fast Track Program).

Vorlesewettbewerb 2023/24

The pages of literature unfolded a magical journey for the 6th-grade classes of GISSV as they participated in Germany's most prestigious reading competition.

Congratulations to the exceptional students who, through their captivating reading skills, secured a coveted spot in the 65. Vorlesewettbewerb 2023/24 (Reading Aloud Competition) held on December 14.

A special shout-out to our school champion, Maya K. (6a), along with Kolja N. (6c, 2nd place), and Pauline G. (6a, 3rd place).

About the Competition:

The Vorlesewettbewerb of the German Book Trade, an annual event since 1959, is orchestrated by the Foundation for Book Culture and Reading Promotion of the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels. This collaborative effort involves bookstores, libraries, schools, and various cultural institutions. Held under the patronage of the Federal President, this competition stands as one of the largest and most celebrated nationwide student contests.

Each year, approximately 600,000 sixth-grade students from diverse school backgrounds participate, engaging in this literary celebration across around 7,000 schools. The competition not only fosters a love for reading but also showcases the remarkable talent and enthusiasm of young readers. Congratulations to all participants for contributing to the vibrant tapestry of literary excellence!
